Our Favorite Dr. Seuss Books
February 27, 2009
We are celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday this Sunday (a little early, but who would object to an early birthday party?) from 2-4pm….red and white striped birthday cake, stories and more!
To gear up for the party, we thought we would ask our own staff what their favorite Dr. Seuss book is, here is what we came up with:
Elaine: The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins
Edye: The Lorax
Gretchen: Green Eggs & Ham
Vicky: Happy Birthday To You!
Elizabeth: And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street
Nancy O.: Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now
Rita: Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?
Ralph T.: Thidwick The Big-Hearted Moose
What a diverse list! To show what a long history Dr. Seuss has with all of us, I scanned a page of a book of mine, Happy Birthday To You! by Dr. Seuss. I have had this book since I was 4 years old. Since I grew up in a bookstore (quite literally), I learned earlier than most kids that you did not draw or write in books….EVER! But..there was another, overriding concern in this case. I was also the youngest of 8 kids. If you had something that you treasured, you better darn well be sure to stake your claim with something more lasting than just saying “I claim it, I claim it officials”. This particular book was mine and I wanted there to be no doubt about it! I WROTE in it! I think that I wanted to be sure that if the Birthday Bird came to our house, he would know which child to choose!
