Ick

Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, but a new product at a well known home decorating store has absolutely horrified me! For $29, you can purchase a sewed together stack of…..I shudder as I type this….antique books! Ordinarily I love articles and stores that promote decorating with old books! Many of them have beautiful covers and heck, someone might actually read them if you put them in your house.
This company however is espousing a new way of decorating with old books (…and I quote..) “Liberated from their covers, stitched and bound with jute twine, the foxed and faded pages of old books become objêts d’art.”. To discover the beauty of old books, one simply needs to “liberate” them from their covers and stitch them all together with twine so you can’t read them? So no one can ever read them again? Ick. Not to mention a waste of money.
Well….OK….I am more awake now. If this is the way we’re moving I’ll try harder to not be a fuddy-duddy and move with the trend. I love the way people in those decorating magazines roll up their towels into tubes. It makes everything looks so tidy and neat. Circles are very relaxing. So….I think that I will “liberate” all of the original artwork that I have amassed from the Sandwich Auction House over the years from their frames and roll them up like the towels! Then I can finally discover the beauty of the old canvas!
